Creative Ambitions:
I suppose that I would probably become an AutoCAD junkie in another life. To create, position and re-arrange all kinds of things, from unique single-family home designs to methodical office furniture arrangements, can be a lot of fun. Easily envisioning two-dimensional drawings in your three-dimensional mind is an exciting and rewarding ability, which I still enjoy using occasionally. While my design input was extremely limited, participating in the design and construction process of a $36 Million civic center over a period of two years was very exciting. While I cannot use this skill as a primary professional function most of the time, it is a great supplemtent to logical thinking in many situations.
Probably a logical extension of my technical design ambitions, carpentry and woodworking have always been some of my favorite occupations. Wood is cheap to buy, light-weight, easy to transform, and doesn't require the use of a great deal of heavy machinery. Already as a child, I designed and built many presents using plywood. To this day, it is a great outlet for creative ideas and, being manual labor, a fantastic relaxation from intellectual work. As soon as I have purchased a house one day I'll probably need a second garage that can be transformed into a workshop. If I was independently wealthy I'd probably go into yacht building...
Many people have great ideas but are too stupid to run a business. Well, I guess that I have been too stupid to have that special idea until now but at least I have the knowledge, ability, experience and drive to create all components of a working business plan and to start up a new company.
