The Short Trips

>>>>> This section will be online with stories and photos at a later time. I am currently traveling and don't have access to all of my CD libraries while on sun-drenched beaches of remote islands. I'll let you know via mass e-mail, probably around November 2006.

Recent Explorations is my section for "standard vacations", a.k.a. you regular 1-3 weeks of traveling to a slightly more confined area than the entire globe. I will only report on a few selected trips, as it is impossible for me to create a new web site for each and every trip I make.

Southeast Asia Fall 2002
My days with Cathay Pacific were an amazing whirlwind tour of southeast Asian highlights. With incredible Hong Kong as my base, I explored the Portuguese colony of Macau, spent more than one night in Bangkok, went island hopping in the Gulf of Thailand, learned to dive in the Andaman Sea, felt sanitized in the glitz of Singapore, and got all dirty again in Kuala Lumpur. These 23 days sure have made me long for more, so Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia are up next.

West Indies Winter 2002
Windjammer Barefoot Cruising at its best. Sailing in an old big sailing vessel through the Caribbean, I hopped from island to island and touched St. Maarten, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Barts and Anguilla. Have you ever tried to get up at sunrise, start every day with a Bloody Mary, and drink Rum Swizzles with every meal beginning at breakfast?

Australia Fall 2001
Boink boink boink... The kangaroo bounce has become my favorite impression of the land Down Under, and my first 17 days were the complete deal: Sydney with its beaches and nightlife, the 2,450-kilomter drive north along the east coast to Cairns via Frasier Island and a sailing trip to the Whitsunday Islands, and the flights to the Red Centre at Alice Springs and Ayers Rock all gave a great first idea of the Fifth Continent.
