1. Burj al-Arab
Dubai's iconic Tower of the Arabs manages to dwarf the adjacent ultra-luxury resorts of the Jumeirah group - my visit to the world's
only 7-star hotel, the tallest on the planet at 321 meters, was a jaw-dropping peek into the lifestyle of the other half. Teflon-coated
fiberglass encloses a gigantic atrium large enough to hold the entire Dubai World Trade Center building. The dizzying Al Muntaha bar and
restaurant juts out to the sea from the top opposite the helipad (and eased $400 out of my pockets for a few drinks plus lunch), and the
servants of the insanely rich park the likes of Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini and Ferrari. If you're lucky suites start at just over $1,000
a night but normally range to $15,000. You'll have to pop north of $28,000 for a good night's sleep in the royal suite.
