Palace of the Grand Master (and the Grand Master!), Rhodes, Greece Island-hopping in Greece is one of my favorite ways to travel, so I crossed the eastern Aegaean Sea coming from Turkey via the Dodecanese group to Crete. The island of Rhodes is known mainly for its splendidly preseverved old town of Rhodes, World Heritage site as the largest inhabited medieval settlemant on earth. Getting lost in its countless cobblestone alleys is one way to spend a day, another one is to walk along Ippoton, the Street of Knights with its imposing buildings, finishing at the Palace of the Grand Master, live-in citadel of the head of the Knights of St. John in the Byzantine fortress.
