1. Mediterranean Perfection - Capri
Naples best represents the essence of La Dolce Vita but also Italy's struggle with the poverty of large working-class families. It is situated at the Gulf of Sorrento, flanked by the two islands of Ischia and Capri. It was here that the European film industry of the 50s and 60s promoted the beauty of the old continent during the young post-war era, picturing it as the vacation spot of choice for the rich and the famous. The jet set has moved on a long time ago but the islands are as posh as ever and nothing for those with small credit card limits. Capri today hosts breathtaking mountain-side villages nestled beneath lush Mediterranean vegetation and offers splendid walks along its cliff tops overlooking the blue sea and the white yachts seeking refuge in its bays.
