1. Aitutaki International Airport (AIT), Cook Islands
No wonder, my favorite spot on earth obviously must have my favorite airport as well. During World War II, the Americans scraped together a super-tough runway made of crushed dead corals, which was only recently sealed by the locals using a thin tar film. They are proud to say that jets the size of a Boeing 737 could land here but they are even happier to say that the only plane to arrive here on a daily basis is a 20-people hopper from Rarotonga. Approaching 32, which is situated on the edge of the current lagoon encircled by coral reefs, is naturally most impressive when watched from the cockpit seat of a Saab 340.

Lifuka's airstrip on the central Ha'apai group island doesn't necessarily conform to international safety standards.

The end of the SEZ runway in the Seychelles is nicely framed by surrounding coral reefs.

Zürich-Kloten International Airport after take-off in a rare cross-field view.

It's cold in Scandinavia during winter time. Nice right bank after take-off for this panoramic shot.
