1. Erez Crossing Into Gaza In true globetrotter fashion I gave it my best shot and ventured to the Gaza Strip during my first visit to Israel. A day earlier, a bomb had rocked Tel Aviv just a few blocks away from my hotel - welcome to the real Holy Land. I hooked up with a UNHCR camera team to make it past the military control post in my quest to visit the huge Palestine refugee camps of Jabalya. Meanwhile, however, new violence had broken out in Gaza City as a result of the resignation by the prime minister and Arafat's appointment of an in-law to a high-level security forces job. Even though I had registered with all embassies and the UN administration, the Israeli military personnel recommended not to continue with my pursuit.
