1. Aitutaki, Cook Islands, South Pacific Ocean I didn't even have to think about this selection for one second... One of my so-called side trips, I ventured from Australia to New Zealand, killed a week traveling around the south island just to wait for my flight to the Cooks, spent some more days on Rarotonga (what a drag!) before I finally made it onto a small airplane to Aitutaki. I wasn't going to be disappointed after all the hype - watching the gigantic lagoon of the atoll coming into sight made up for all the effort and time it took to get there. True paradise on earth, every motu of the archipelago is a piece of heaven in itself.
